The two-year-old completed the trek on his father’s back alongside his mother, Jade, on October 25, 2023. According to a British tabloid, Ross, a former senior sales manager, said his son Carter coped better than he and his wife during the trek to Everest base camp. Despite both parents experiencing slight altitude sickness, the two-year-old was perfectly fine throughout the journey. Ross also mentioned that they had bought food, jackets, and two sleeping bags for the trek on a whim and began the trek within 24 hours of landing in Kathmandu. The family was lucky to have access to medics at the villages before the base camp, who tested the toddler’s blood and found his results to be better than those of his parents. The medics were amazed by his resilience.

“There were two medics at the villages before base camp, and they tested his blood to check he was fine,” Carter’s dad explained

The couple, Ross and Jade, who used to work as a senior sales manager and housing officer, respectively, reportedly prepared for their trek to Everest base camp by practising breathing techniques and taking ice bath plunges. While the parents completed the journey in their trainers, they carried their little one on Ross’s back. According to Radio Prague International, Carter’s achievement has surpassed that of Zara Šifra, who previously held the record for reaching the base camp at the age of four.

The family rented their house in Scotland and embarked on a year-long adventure in August 2023 with three one-way tickets. After flying to India, they visited Sri Lanka and the Maldives, returning to India multiple times. They then travelled to Nepal before attending a wedding in Malaysia, followed by a visit to Singapore’s Universal Studios to celebrate Carter’s birthday. The family spent Christmas in Penang, Malaysia, before crossing the border to Thailand.
After spending the new year on Koh Lanta, a Thai island, the Dallases explore the Khao Sok nature reserve in Thailand’s jungle. As per the DailyMail, the family’s next stop is Bangkok, followed by Cambodia. Ross reportedly stated that their son, Carter, thoroughly enjoys the experience and has been exposed to various cultures during their travels. The young boy has even picked up the local language, including phrases such as “swastika” and “Namaste.” Ross expressed his delight that his son has been playing with children in small villages, opening his mind to different perspectives.
Ross and Jade have shared that their son Carter has developed a liking for exotic foods during their travels. He has relished fish curries in the Maldives, chicken feet in Malaysia, and even tried crocodile meat. However, according to Al Jazeera, his favourite food is Pad Thai, a classic Thai dish made of stir-fried rice noodles, commonly served as street food.

The family has had many exciting experiences on their trip so far, with some of the highlights being a visit to an elephant orphanage, bathing with the elephants, seeing the Taj Mahal, and swimming with sharks in the Maldives.
