The sculpture ORB, designed by Spanish artist SpY, initially stood in front of the pyramids of Giza, drawing inspiration from the vast desert surroundings. It has since been relocated to a new setting at the Place des Arts in Montreal, Canada. Despite the change in location, the enigmatic piece continues to captivate viewers with its grandeur, demonstrating the enduring universality of its message.
ORB is a new sculpture found at the Place des Arts in Montreal, Canada.
Originally, ORB was intended to bridge the ancient and contemporary worlds through its blend of “formal simplicity with a deep symbolic charge,” according to its creator. Now, in its new location, ORB has an updated and even more striking purpose, reflecting the sparkling Montreal skyline and merging with it.
It was originally meant to be placed in front of the pyramids of Giza.
“At its essence, ORB reimagines an everyday object—the convex traffic mirror—by turning it into an artistic element,” the artist explains. “Multiplied and arranged in a unique spherical pattern, this familiar yet often overlooked urban feature takes on a new identity as part of a piece that surprises and captivates the observer.”
