Located right in the heart of Bristol, United Kingdom, the Bag of Nails is not just your ordinary pub that serves flat pints. It’s where you can unwind, taste a variety of IPAs, enjoy board games with your friends and even pet cats! Yes, you heard that right – the pub is home to a bunch of adorable cats. These feline friends can be found lounging on the counter, bar chairs and almost anywhere, so it’s best to be careful not to accidentally sit on them.
When Luke Daniels opened his pub, he never expected that one day it would be full of cats
The pub was established in December 2011 by Luke Daniels, who was excited to start his new venture. He welcomed patrons with open arms, served them drinks and played good music, quickly making it the go-to place in town. As it turns out, the feline visitors thought the same way – one day in 2011, a cute little kitten showed up in the pub. The Bag of Nails team shared a picture of the adorable kitten on their Facebook page with the caption “The Bag of Nails has a kitten! I know. Could things get any freakin’ cuter around here? Meet Malcolm. All together now.”
Back in 2011, when Daniels opened his pub, a tiny kitten named Malcolm made the venue his permanent home
Malcolm was soon joined by another cat named Beresford, and slowly, they began their adorable takeover of the pub. But Luke wasn’t mad at all – he found them simply too cute to resist.
Soon, more cats joined in and the pub became Bristol’s official cat pub
After a while, a pair of cats gave birth to a litter of adorable kittens who continued to reside at the pub. With a plethora of feline friends on the premises, The Bag of Nails soon became renowned as Bristol’s well-known cat pub.
Besides tasty beverages and fun board games, customers can also cuddle cats
The pub proudly declared, “Cats and beer. It’s our specialty,” on their social media page. The statement was short and sweet, but it was enough to pique my interest in visiting Bristol.
Like people, they all have different personalities and tastes – one of them even loves the belly rubs!
It seems like the word spread quickly amongst the feline community, as more and more cats started showing up at the pub. Some of the cats were shy, while others were more outgoing and even climbed onto the customers’ laps, much to their delight. Every cat had their own unique personality and preferences. After all, who wouldn’t be thrilled to have a furry friend choose them as their personal perch?
